Here is a sample letter that I send out with the students when they conduct the interviews.

Sample Questions

  1. What motivated you to come out and vote?
  2. What would you like to see changed in our political system?
  3. Do you vote in every election? (How regularly do you vote?)
  4. Do you know why we vote on Tuesday?
  5. Where have you encountered the highest amount of ad campaigning? Radio, TV, print, internet, other.
  6. What was the most memorable campaign ad that you have encountered?
  7. Are you always sure of who you are going to vote for when you walk into the booth or are you still deliberating?
  8. What changes do you hope to see in Philadelphia as a result of this election?
  9. What impact do you feel that your vote will have on the election?
  10. Did you learn about voting in school?  If yes, did that impact your willingness to vote today?

Student Guidelines

  1. Use your best manners – you represent the school, your community and young people.
  2. Ask 5 of the questions to any ONE voter to meet the minimum requirement for the assignment.
  3. Record the answers with audio, video or on paper and post the answers to the internet.  Posting as a blog post, tumblr, flickr, youtube, schooltube … wherever content can be uploaded… Upload ON election day if possible.
  4. If there are any questions, concerns, issues, or confusion DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT YOUR TEACHER IMMEDIATELY
